We have all heard about exfoliating and how important it is but what do we really know about exfoliating? What is it? How often should we do it? Why do we need to do it?
Our bodies are a beautiful thing. They are these perfect machines that are constantly changing and regenerating themselves, especially our skin. Our skin is made out of cells that are continuously changing into newer cells and replacing old ones! So where do those dead cells go? How do we remove them? They naturally fall and become dust but until they fall, they stay on our skin clogging our pores, making it look dull and dry.
This is why exfoliating your body and face should be one the most essential steps in your skincare routine! By exfoliating your skin, you help remove dead cells and create room for those new skin cells to glow.
Exfoliating has many other benefits such as evening out the tone of your skin, increasing your circulation, brightening your skin, as well as opening up your pores, so the products that you are applying penetrate your skin even more!
Before you try any of our recommendations, make sure you test exfoliating in a small part of your skin to gauge your tolerance and what type of exfoliation you like. Don’t forget your skin is delicate and it should only be treated with the most respect and care. If certain exfoliators irritate your skin, make sure to consult with your dermatologist. We have rounded up our favorite products below. And the best part? They are all available for you to shop at our store!
For our face, we only want the best and the most gentle exfoliator in the market. We are absolutely OBSESSED over Josh Rosebrook’s Active Enzyme Exfoliator! This mask leaves the face SO bright and radiant! It is literally like giving your skin a brand new reset to a fresh start. Gently apply it in a circular motion and leave it on for 10-60min for best results!
After exfoliating make sure to moisturize deeply. We like using Olive Gold 03 because of the amazing healing and nourishing properties of super oxygen!
The lips are that area that we often forget to exfoliate. We leave it only for the winter when our lips are super chapped! We should exfoliate our lips with the same frequency as we do with our body/face, two times per week. The effects of the sun and summer heat can leave your lips feeling rough and dry. We love Stewart & Claire Mint Julep Lip Scrub made out of natural butters and oils and gentle enough to leave your lips ready for that perfect kiss. Apply with a small toothbrush (just for this!) in a circular motion, and finish up with a deeply moisturizing lip balm like Air Repair Rescue Balm.
If you are going to exfoliate your whole body (as you should) why not do it with a scrub that smells heavenly? We absolutely love the S.W Basics Body Scrub. It leaves your skin super soft and smooth. The only problem? It smells so good that everyone is going to want a piece of you! And to top off this amazing ritual of self-care and self-awareness finish with our favorite body oil by Oxalis Apothecary. It will soothe your skin and calm your mind.
